- In terms of mood (both martial and eerie) and structure (the score is divided into 10 suites), there's no major departure from the previous installments in the Halo series here. The biggest difference is that this time, composers Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori seemed to have had a bigger budget and were able to hire a large orchestra. Where the synthetic feel of the previous two CDs sometimes made them feel a little thin and cheap, Halo 3 has the means to match its ambitions: This music would not shame a big-budget Hollywood sci-fi/action movie. Tracks such as "To Kill a Demon" and "This Is the Hour" (both of which, typically, recycle the composers' own themes) illustrate well this expanded sonic palette. The second CD ends with a hidden track ("Love Your Friends") by a band called Princeton, a fairly run-of-the-mill pop-punk effort which won a competition to be included on the soundtrack and which feels jarring compared to the rest of the music here. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

- Halo Wars is a strategy game based on the Halo universe. In campaign mode, players will command the armies of the UNSC warship "Spirit of Fire," consisting of familiar and new UNSC units in its initial encounters against the Covenant, an alien coalition threatening to obliterate mankind. Halo Wars will immerse gamers in an early period of the Halo universe, allowing them to experience events leading up to the first Halo title for Xbox.
With the guidance of Serina, a spirited artificial intelligence (AI) persona, gamers will direct legions of UNSC soldiers, Warthogs, Scorpions and more, each group having its own strengths and uses in battle. - It's impossible to talk about Standard Operating Procedure without referencing Taxi to the Dark Side. Fortunately, both documentaries are vital to any discussion about US military interrogation techniques. While Alex Gibney's Oscar winner uses the death of an Iraqi taxi driver as a framing device, director Errol Morris and writer Philip Gourevitch (We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families) examine the issue through visual evidence (they also collaborated on a book of the same name). While Gibney concentrates on Bhagram, Morris focuses on Abu Ghraib, but his self-described "non-fiction horror film," which features a dramatic Danny Elfman score and slow-motion reenactments, runs along two tracks. First, he aims to find out what happened at the infamous institution. Along with the photographs and video footage, he speaks to the guards and the brigadier general who oversaw their operations, including former army specialist Lynndie England, who has all the charm of Aileen Wuornos (so memorably immortalized in Monster). As in his Thin Blue Line, accounts contradict other accounts. In Morris's world, absolute truth doesn't exist; it's up to viewers to decide which subjects seem most reliable. This leads to his parallel goal, which is to question the reliability of imagery. Photography was prohibited at Abu Ghraib, so he identifies the responsible parties, the reasoning behind their rule-breaking, and the stories behind the most incendiary pictures. If less emotionally engaging than Gibney's feature, Standard Operating Procedure is just as essential--and every bit as disturbing. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

The likeness doesn't end with just the physical look; the plasma gun also lights up in the appropriate spots, creates realistic sounds, and even has details like overheating sounds. The guns feel wonderful in the hand and aren't uncomfortable in any way.Laser Tag Fun
The guns aren't just collectible replicas; they're functional and with them, you can play a great game of laser tag with your friends. This set includes two guns and two target units, enough for a two player game, but more guns can be purchased to increase the number of players.To begin play, simply flip the switch to on both the gun and the target. The target unit has a belt clip for easy attachment to the player's body. With each shot you will hear the firing sound from the game, and the tip will light up. When you hit the target, it flashes and makes a sound.
The target has six shield levels that are indicated by lights on the unit, and the game is over when all six shield levels are depleted. Just as in the video game, you can create a super shot by holding the trigger down for at least three seconds and then releasing. This super shot inflicts more damage but will temporarily overheat the gun and disable it. When ammo is used up, a push of the reload button lets you resume. Also, like in the video game, the target will regenerate shield levels if not hit for 20 seconds.
Long Range
We were able to test the target from about 50 feet away without any problems. (The instruction booklet claims a range of 92 feet. ) One minor annoyance we encountered was that the laser tracking device wasn't especially accurate; we would get "hits" even when we weren't aiming straight at the target. This was especially noticeable in short distances and while playing one-player target practice. With multiple players, there was so much running around and the target was so difficult to hit that we did not notice.Batteries Required
Each Plasma Pistol requires 4 AA batteries to operate and each target needs 3 AA batteries, meaning a total of 14 batteries are needed for a two player game. Investing in rechargeable batteries might be wise and would save money in the long run. The guns and targets will enter sleep mode if it detects no activity for 10 minutes, saving battery life.What's in the Box
